Diya- Brighten up your day with this warm and auspicious glow
What is Diya
Diya is a little lamp, traditionally made from earthen clay or metal.
Many people also light Diya every day by praying to God. The shining light of Diya is considered sacred and stands for wisdom, prosperity and enlightenment.
How Diya can be used.
Add oil/ghee to the interior of Diya. Stir in Pooja Batti. Allow it to soak in oil/ghee thoroughly. This should take approximately 10-15 minutes.
Once the oil gets to the upper end of the Batti, light it with a match or candle.
Place the lighted Diya on your doorway or window ledge. Make the most of the sparkling luminescence.
Karthigai festival with Diya :
Karthika Deepam, Thrikarthika or Karthikai Vilakkidu is a festival of lights that is observed mainly by Hindu Tamils, and also in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Sri Lanka.
On the occasion of Karthigai Deepam, rows of Agal Vilakkus or clay oil lamps are lit in every home, as they are believed to ward off evil forces.
This ritual of lighting the lamps is important in almost every Hindu festival and is essential for this festival as well. Throughout the month lamps are lit in the front of the house in the evening.
